China’s recent beef tariff announcement has created some uncertainty for feedlots and processors. Bindaree is developing a robust plan to manage this change, however, in the short term, we will look to increase beef volumes into our established markets such as the United States, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, while continuing to build our presence in the United Kingdom.

According to current industry reports, Australia is expected to reach its China quota as early as the 1st of May. In response, Bindaree has reduced its intake of 100-day HGP-free cattle and has “pilled” some cattle originally destined for China. Global demand for Australian beef remains strong, and Bindaree will aim to capitalise on this by operating at full capacity through 2026. Production will increase at Monbeef (Cooma) in the coming weeks, while we maintain current processing numbers at Inverell.

In terms of supply, Bindaree’s cattle buyers are reporting large yardings from Roma through to Wagga Wagga, particularly a large quantity of young cattle in New South Wales. Despite flood events impacting the north, both the Northern Territory and Queensland have experienced favourable consecutive wet seasons, driving high calving rates and weight gain.

In line with this, Bindaree is aiming to increase hot standard weights in the first half of the year and is therefore seeking to induct heavier animals into its feed programs, hence the change to the weight brackets on our feeder and slaughter grids. The average carcase weight of USA grain fed animals has now reached 410kg and as we look to increase our market share in the US, our customers are demanding carcases between 350-400kg rather than 280-330kg.

Cattle supply in Australia appears to be abundant, and we expect large volumes of grainfed cattle and sustained beef production to continue in 2026. In 2025, Bindaree purchased over 85% of feeder cattle on consignment and will look to continue this trend. This strategy ensures that cattle are pre-treated and socialised before feedlot entry, improving welfare and performance.

We are currently in a comfortable position with both processor and feeder bookings. If you wish to book cattle, please talk to one of our team in advance so we can best accommodate your needs.
